Where Future Readiness Begins

Education & Career Guidance Built for the AI Era

Through years of working closely with families at Oxbridge Gateway, we came to recognise that making confident academic and career decisions had become increasingly difficult for many.

Many students were not struggling because they lacked ambition, but because they were trying to navigate significant mismatches between self-understanding and reality, personal strengths and academic prerequisites, perceived industries and actual career demands, as well as passion and practical opportunity.

Shaped by Oxbridge academic expertise and frontline education consulting experience, ASPIREdeck was developed to help students build deeper self-understanding and make more informed, realistic, and future-oriented academic and career decisions.

“Nearly 4 in 10 students in developed economies report uncertainty about their career plans at school completion.”

(Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development, 2025)

Compounding Rising Challenges

Through our work with students at Oxbridge Gateway, we saw that expanding opportunities, intensifying competition, and shifting societal expectations have made academic and career decision-making increasingly complex for today’s students.

Many are expected to make important choices while still developing an understanding of their own strengths, interests, and long-term direction in a rapidly changing world, making informed and assured future planning more difficult than ever.

To this end, we have embarked on a journey to solve this problem by creating ASPIREdeck.

James Sheldrake headshot_edited.jpg

Mr J Sheldrake

Oxford Senior English Language and Literature Consultant

Mr Sheldrake left the University of Warwick with a First in English Literature and a deep love of Shakespeare. His Master of Studies degree at the University of Oxford allowed him to develop his academic skills working on, amongst other things, a thesis on Renaissance Tragicomedy.

After a brief period in literary journalism during which he collaborated with Shakespeare’s Globe and the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art, he became a schoolmaster, spending seven years at Radley College, then one of only four remaining all-boys, all-boarding schools in England. Amongst several jobs there he was the Director of University Entrance 2019-23. This involved personally checking and sending to UCAS over 800 applications, everything from Finance to Fashion to Forensics at everywhere from Cambridge to Cardiff to Canterbury. He supervised dozens of these applications from start to finish, especially where there were any complex pastoral or academic situations, and oversaw colleagues' work on Oxbridge, USA and Rest of World applications. This involved extensive communication with families and university admissions professionals, especially on the four A Level Results Days where he was the central point of communication.

He left full-time teaching in 2023 to do something more flexible and creative, starting with a one-man comedy show about Shakespeare at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival 2023, and now lives in South East London with his wife and two children, where he tutors online and in-person from 11+ upwards alongside pursuing acting and writing projects.

Dr E Evenden-Kenyon

Oxbridge and Harvard Humanities Consultant

Dr Evenden-Kenyon holds a PhD in Political Science from the University of York, where she also studied Literature, Languages and Linguistics as an undergraduate. She undertook her MA in Forensic Linguistics at the University of Birmingham. She was certified in Public Policy Design and Delivery at the Harvard Kennedy School. She is an established author in academic, government, and fictional writing. She has also worked extensively as an editor in both academic and government arenas. After more than two decades as a full-time academic, Dr Evenden-Kenyon is now a part-time academic at Oxford, and splits her time between this and work as a Chartered Management Consultant, working with and advising the British Government.

Dr Evenden-Kenyon’s academic career started at the University of Cambridge, where she taught Politics, Religion, and Economics in the History Faculty. She was also a don at Newnham College, and a British Academy Postdoctoral Fellow there. In 2012 she was awarded a prestigious Marie Sklodowska-Curie Fellowship by the European Commission, we saw her take a professorship at Harvard University, as Principal Investigator of a large project on Conflict, Coalition and the Press, examining the history of how the media manipulates public opinion in accordance with the needs of the state.

Dr Evenden-Kenyon returned to the UK to take up a post at the University of Oxford in the department of Medieval and Modern Languages, and also took up a Fellowship at Ushaw College at the University of Durham. During this phase of her career, her analysis of government ‘spin’ saw her researching this political language across Portugal, Spain, and France, as well as the UK. As her academic career began to blend with government policy, Dr Evenden-Kenyon moved into work as a forensic linguist. She continues to work with students at all levels of their academic journey, advising others on how to move into and out of different study and employment opportunities, utilising their critical thinking skills.
